Blood sugar Biohacking?
Blood sugar. Unless you are a diabetic or pre-diabetic, you may not think much about your blood sugar. All too often, people begin diets but cannot stick with the plan they choose. Most times it is due to hunger and deprivation. Even lack of interesting foods. When our stomach rumbles, that is a huge attention getter! I have seen in my 30 years as a health coach and weight loss counselor, diets and fads come and go. The average person gains 7 lbs. over the holiday season from about Early November through December 31st.
After the hangover on January 1st, we run out and buy up the latest fitness gadgets, vitamins and fat burning supplements du jour and it’s off to the races. Losing over 80 lbs. for me was no small task so it still makes me scratch my head that people still find themselves in this place every year. Maybe it’s just my personality. I NEVER want to go back to being over 200 lbs. I just suck it up all year and do what I am supposed to do. I am not tempted in any way to over indulge in anything.
Right now, I bet your hating on me. Allow me to tell you a few reasons why my “willpower” (as my friends call it) has staying power. No, I am not an alien or super-human by any means. What I have managed to do however,is keep a tight reign on my blood sugar. Always. No cravings means no indulgences. I cannot say that I NEVER indulge, that would be a fib. My indulges are few and far between and they are really not indulgences by most peoples standards. A gluten free brownie every few months is about the extent of it. And I DO pay for it. It takes about 24 hours for my blood sugar to get back to normal and the best way for me to get a handle on it is with a 20 minute “high intensity interval training workout. Exercise is a great way to manage blood sugar.
I cannot get the “high” from food that I can from feeling my best and not being a slave to my appetite. Most days I can go 5 or more hours without a meal and it has been liberating. I know there are many of you out there who are resolving to change habits this year. Like most people you will succeed. For a while. I implore you to stop doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results. Put down the Slimfast (TM) ,forget about the Lean Cuisine (TM) and join me in the ONLY way to get weight, hunger and hormones back on track.
